News - September 2008

Hey Everyone!

Well, September is here and we have a lot on our plate before the year's end.

You all should have gotten the two announcements about the Steve Seskin seminar on Oct 4th and Jason Blume Seminar on Nov. 1st. If not let me know and I will re-email them to you!

I have never attend either ones seminar before but what I do know is Steve and Jason are top writers/teachers both with Grammy Nominations, and a heck of a lot of cuts! We are all pretty lucky to have them want to come here. I really think you have to go to these seminars like an open sponge wanting to soak up everything you can. The only way I ever got better as a musician/producer was to work with great musicians, and steal every idea I could working with great producers. While most of my band members were in the studio's other room playing pool or pinball I was annoying the hell out of the producer we were working with by asking a million ?'s. Yes there are a few Rock producers that still think I'm a pain, but I was able to learn a lot in a short amount of time.
If you want to become a great songwriter study other great songwriters. Its not that hard, all you have to do is show up, and have a great attitude.

Ok Sept. meeting will be on Sunday Sept. 14th from 1pm to 5pm at our regular place Belle Cooledge Community Center. The address is 5699 S. Land Park, Sacramento Ca 95822.
We have studied in the last 4 months, Hooks, Melody, Lyrics, Groove. Now it's time to dive deep into the songs. This month we will work on The Big Chorus. I will bring in a number of songs with big chorus's and we will tear them apart to see how the writer or producer made that {sing along chorus} that you can't get out of your head.
We will also rip songs from the country top 100, and have our critique session for any of you who want there songs critiqued. Remember bring about 10 copies of your lyrics for the song you want critiqued or one transparent sheet for the overhead.

I will go over the up coming seminars and answer any ?'s at the meeting.

See you all soon
