News - April 2007

April????

That means that Tahoe is almost here.....oh my God!! Larry & Beckett are going to be busy!

Our April schedule will be as follows:

Thursday Night Co-writes will continue, at our house.

  • Thursday April 5th,
  • Thursday April 12th
  • Thursday April 19th
  • Thursday April 26th
Our usual 7 pm - 10'ish. I really want to focus on finishing in-process songs and possibly demo-ing songs for those of you going to Tahoe. If you have someone that you need to finish something with, feel free to use our place on these evenings.
Let's just get it done!

Our April open mic will be on Tuesday April 10th, at Java Cafe' in Fair Oaks....as usual. From 7:00 - 10:00'ish. Let's get those new songs worked out. The Java Cafe' is on the corner of Fair Oaks and Madison in Fair Oaks, it's a family friendly place. There's a full PA, just plug in and play. Original material only, three song sets. Be There!.....please....

Volunteers needed!!! I try to not ask for too many favors from folks. But when the Tahoe Event hits we'll be needing a few helping hands - both in Tahoe and shuttling people to and from Tahoe to Sacramento and Reno. Will those of you with kind hearts (or at least very gullible) please step forward..... I have everyone's schedule soon. This will be a community effort.

We won't have a regular meeting this month, per say. But we will do two Sunday gatherings on the 15th and the 22nd, both from 1-4 at our house. Our usual open house for demos and co-writes. If you have a song in process, if you can sing or play to help someone out, whatever you can do to help out another member. Or bring your list of what you need help with. I'll demo as many as I can. Beckett and I are killing ourselves with this schedule, but we want everyone ready for Tahoe. If Beckett looks tired....it's because she is.....after all she's married to a psychotic moron....(that would be me).

Some Nashville stuff. I've come to understand NSAI a bit more from this visit. And "no" they didn't beat me up in a back room or anything. NSAI is hugely respected around Nashville, and that's an understatement. Their "regional workshop" program has some blemishes, but they're finally listening. Our Sacramento chapter has become one of their shinning stars (that's what you get for having a business minded, caffeinated lunatic at the helm). For those of you just looking to be part of a local songwriters group - we're still just "us", and that's fine. For those of you pursuing bigger dreams in your writing, tying into NSAI is a big step.

Much as just "being part of the Sacramento group" would help you stepping up to any pro who has come out here. Being part of NSAI will help you step up to anyone in Nashville.....But your songs still need to be great! But believe me Nashville loves NSAI.

The Gibson Guitar company has donated an "Epiphone Nylon Acoustic" to be raffled off in Tahoe. It's a Masterbuilt EN 546C model. This thing has an MSRP of $1,100 - with the best internet prices going at around $600. Gibson is sponsoring our Tahoe event! Does that blow anybody away....besides me? Tickets will be $5 each or, 5 for $20. This alone will help the event break even, my thanks to Gibson. It's a nice player too.....at least for a nylon string.... :-) yeah.... Tom, Bob & Dave....a nylon string...

I got the chance to speak at the National Gathering of NSAI Coordinators, nobody laughed or threw anything at me either. They liked what we're doing here, and I got a lot of thanks and praise. It seems that what we're doing here is working as well as any chapter. This whole thing has been 100% adlibbed, my continued thanks to everyone for their help and support. Even the management of NSAI likes us. As long as I can keep my energy level....we'll keep this thing flying. To those coordinators who are now getting these emails, please ad me to your list too. We all need to share ideas!

A closing thought.......everyone knows that "Nashville" is where it's at for songwriters (and we get really tired of hearing that too). There is something even more important in Nashville (and Tennessee) no state income tax, low real estate prices, and lower taxes in general! As California continues down it's path to wherever it's going....Beckett and I may have found the actual reason for moving there. Where's the closest U-Haul?

Take Care My Friends,

Tahoe is 5 4 3 2 1 months away....and counting!
