News - September 2007

Summer is already winding down....and I don't even remember winding up......

First note....The Marc Alan visit has been great! The BBQ was great and Marc's sessions and workshops were very well received. As usual..... He'll be back!

Due to the holiday next weekend, we'll move our meeting back a week - to Sunday Sept. 9th. From 1pm to 4pm at our house. We'll be going over the making it in Nashville - while living in California, the stuff that Marc was talking about. We'll do song critiquing, and finish the music theory DVD that Chris has.

On Saturday Sept. 8th, Tom Eifler has set up an open mic with the Java Cafe - the same place we used, at the corner of Fair Oaks Blvd and Madison - in Fair Oaks. This being a "Saturday" and not a "Tuesday" should allow more folks the chance to come out and participate. From 7pm - 10'ish. Let's make a good showing! The full PA as usual, three song sets.....all on a Saturday night...... be there!!!

I'll be adding a September "Thurday night co-write" in a week or two.

On a note from Marc Alan, as to the subject matters that Nashville gets flooded with. He says that when he's involved in critiques in Nashville in a group setting, that there are certain subjects that as soon as they are mentioned - provide a nearly instant turn off to the pro listening......because they hear so darn much on the subjects. This is not to say that these words or phrases can't be used at all...... but as "subjects" they've already been used to death.......

These key words and subjects are:
Dreams
Pick-up trucks
Cowboy
Eyes / Blue Eyes
Songs about "Nashville"
Rainbows / Rain
Homeless people
Drinking

The point isn't that these are "dead" subjects. It's just that you need a really, really fresh way to attack them to be successful.

That's all for now. September will be a light month for activity from this group. Which is good for me since I'm back in a work mode on a new house. Also for anyone who's interested, I'm teaching my Real Estate Investing class at Sierra College in Rocklin on Sept. 29th from 9am-4pm. You can get the information at www.sccommed.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=1011&CategoryID=3&SubCategoryID=16
Then page down to class #8914.

Keep Writing.........
