News - March 2008

Hi Everyone!

I just wanted to touch base on a few things we covered in Feb. and what will be going on in March. I like to thank all of you who showed up for Feb. meeting. I had a lot of fun and I hope you did too.

If you missed it we:
  Ripped apart three songs that were on the charts,from lyrics to hooks to melody. We used our new critique sheets to help critique each others songs. I really hope this helped you all out. Third we found out Kurt needs his 9 yr old to help him figure out an overhead projector. I'm sorry I didn't know these things need a clear sheets to work. My grade school years are one big blur with some Nuns screaming and a Big pointer waving through the air like Excalibur! I passed out some Transparency sheet, so at Mamonthly meeting we can use them. These sheets will work with your computer to print out your lyrics or you can just bring about 10 copies of your lyrics to pass out. Last ,starting in March we are incorporating our song of the month. Bring a song you wrote to the meeting, even if you don't want it to be critiqued, and have it played for song of the month. We will vote on song of the month at the end of our meeting. And yes you MUST BE PRESENT, to play and vote. Please DO NOT email me a song and ask if I can play it for the group. Thanks. The winner's song will be on our front page of our website with his or her link to there myspace page or website. At the end of the year, we will will vote on song of the year from the monthly winners pool. The winner will receive a song completely Demoed in my studio + other fun surprises.

Kicking off March is the Dan Hodges Seminar.This seminar will be Saturday March 8th from 10:30am until 4pm at Skips Music in our usual meeting room in the back. For you new comers Skips Address is: 2740 Auburn Blvd Sacramento, CA 95821, (click here for Map Quest) Once again Map Quest will get you there! The event cost will be $60, cash or check at the Door. Cash is easier on us, but we will take your check. This event will include lunch like always {sandwich,chips drink, munchies,coffee, water etc.} I hope you all can attend. If you want to investigate more about Dan and Murrah Music his companies web link is www.murrahmusic.com. Dan will be playing some demos from his Co.,talk about the Nashville scene, take ?'s and critiquing our songs. You are guaranteed 1 pitch for sure but bring 2. Depending how many people show up we might be able to get 2 in for everyone. Last yr there was no problem getting in 2,but Dan and I will make that call before the seminar starts. Format: Cd,cassette or you can play it live, but it should just be you and a instrument.Please remember to bring a copy of your lyric sheet for Dan.

Our March Monthly meeting will be on Sunday March 16th from 1pm to 5pm at our NEW and final place, Belle Cooledge Community Center. The address is 5699 South Land Park Dr Sacramento, CA 95822-3307, US. It 's about two block off the I-5 so it's easy to get to, and as always Map Quest will get you there. Our room is the McClatchy room. We will be having our monthly meeting there for the rest of the year. I will send you all a calendar with the rest of the years dates in the next week or so.

I hope to see you all at our Feb. meeting on the 10th.
