News - March 2008
Hey Everyone!
Hope everything is going well with all of you. I just got back from Nashville from the coordinators meetings and Tin Pan South. It was all a big eye opener to many aspects of how Nashville works. I would like to share what I learned with you all, but I would be typing out a John Grisham Novel, so hopefully you all can make this months meeting.
It will be this Sunday April 13th at our new home , Belle Cooledge Community Center. The address is 5699 South Land Park Dr Sacramento, CA 95822-3307, US.
IT IS NOT THE BELLE COOLEDGE LIBRARY,THAT IS ACROSS THE STREET.
There are a few things I want to start at this meeting. First we will continue to rip songs apart songs that our in the top 100. All you have to do is bring one in you like that has NOT been written or co-written by the artist. Please bring the lyrics on a transparency sheet or about 10 copies. We will tear it apart and see why it works.
One thing I am going to start every month is that we will dedicate time to One aspect of song writing. What I mean is one month we will tear apart hooks, the next melodie, the next groove, the next lyrics, all in depth.I know it sounds like a lot, but I promise it will be helpful.
Soooo on that note I would like to start with the month of April as Hook Month. Bring in any song that has a great hook and we will play it and find out why it works. IT CAN BE WRITTEN BY ANYONE! IT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE IN THE TOP 100. Any type of music,we just want to check out the hook.
Of course we will be critiquing our songs, SO BRING THEM IN!!! One thing I learned in Nashville by a very famous songwriter is that you can't be afraid to put it all on the line. If you can't play your song for 15 people in a small room in Sac, how are you ever going to get it to Nashville? Well with that in mind I hope to see you all this Sunday.
