News - May 2008
Hey Everyone!
Hope everything is going well with all of you. I just got back from Nashville from the coordinators meetings and Tin Pan South. It was all a big eye opener to many aspects of how Nashville works. I would like to share what I learned with you all, but I would be typing out a John Grisham Novel, so hopefully you all can make this months meeting.
Well it's May.Where did the last four months go? Our Meeting this month will be Sunday May 11th at our usual place, Belle Cooledge Community Center. The address is 5699 South Land Park Dr Sacramento, CA 95822-3307, US.
IT IS NOT THE BELLE COOLEDGE LIBRARY,THAT IS ACROSS THE STREET.
Our room is the McClatchy room. We will be there from 1pm to around 5pm. And Yes I know it is MOTHERS DAY!! When I booked the hall for the year it did not have Mothers day on it's calendar, so I Apologies. If you have plans with your mom, I understand. If your a mom, Congrats! These dates are lock for the year.
My mom is in Detroit so I get out of our annual mothers day trip to Denny's! I think she digs the $ and the card better anyhow! LOL If you were able to make it to April's meeting I think our session on Hooks went well. I really enjoyed going thru the different songs, and taking a hard look at the hooks in them. Thank you for all of you who brought them in. I hope this was helpful.
This month we are going to tackle Melodies. Yes May= Melody. Bring in a song with your favorite Melody and we will go thru it. As always I will be bringing a few to go thru. Melody is the first thing most listeners can process. Back in the old days how many times did you or your friend hear a great song but not remember the name, yet you could hum the melody line to someone. I was the annoying kid who would call the radio station and hum the song I just heard to the dj trying to get the name of it. Yeah WRIF probably still hates me! We will also be taking apart songs from the top 100, that have not been written by the artist. I believe ripping them apart, lyrics, melody, hooks, groove will keep reminding us where the Bar really is in Nashville.
And last we will critiquing our own songs. Bring in anything you got or perform it live. You will just need to bring your lyric sheet on a transparency,{ for my 1955 overhead projector}, or about 10 copies for everyone. If you just want to perform one of your songs that ok too. I understand that there are some of you that write just for yourself, so if you just want to play your newest creation, we are always glad to listen.
