News - August 2008

Hey Everyone!

Our August monthly meeting will be on Sunday Aug 10th from 1 to 4 ish at our regular place Belle Cooledge Community Center. The address is 5699 S. Land Park, Sacramento Ca 95822.

This month we will be focusing on Lyrics.

Since lyrics are such a main focus of Country music, we will skip our usual ripping session of top 100 songs and focus on lyrics that have worked. So bring in your favorite song that you think the lyrics "make it" and we will dive into it. You will need to bring a copy of the lyrics on a transparency sheet, or about 10 copies of regular paper, oh yeah don't forget to bring the SONG! This song can be written by the artist or outside writers. The focus will be why the lyrics work. I will be bringing in a number of songs for this meeting.
We will also have our critique session so bring in your song to play for the group. Once again you will need a transparency sheet, or about 10 copies of the lyrics on regular paper.

I would like to personal thank all of you who showed up for our "Writing for the Radio Seminar". I know this was a little different than our normal seminars, but I wanted you all to understand how radio works and how they program it. Now that you have this info,you can curb your writing toward there time constraints, demographics,and so on. I personally came away from that seminar with one big conclusion. From Radio, to Publishing to A&R, they all want the same thing, A Great Hook!
