News - February 2008
Hi Everyone!
Our Feb. meeting will be on Sunday Feb. 10th from 2-4 at Sierra-2, room 12. The address once again is, 2791 24th street Sacramento Ca 95818. Map Quest will get you there. I would like to apologize for the parking at this center in advance. I know it SUCKS! Sierra 2 will not be our permanent home. I was hoping the city run facility I was applying for would come through before our Feb. meeting but because of red tape it hasn't. I will go over this more in detail at our Feb. meeting.
I would personally like to thank all of you who showed up for Jan. meeting. The large turnout really blew me away! I think you all got a idea of where this ship is sailing and hopefully you still want to stay on board. Feb. meeting will cover of a few agendas. We will go over our website changes. I am meeting with Dave to work out 2008 challenges.
We will be ripping apart charted songs. For those of you who weren't at Jan. meeting, the ripping thing is basically taking a song written solely by outside writers that has charted in the last year in the top 100 and taking a hard look at the way it was constructed, hooks, lyrics, melody, groove. The song does not have to be Country, but it does have to be written by an outside writer. I will be bringing 3 but feel free to bring what you think will help the group. You will only have to bring 1 copy of the lyrics since I will have my overhead projector fired up. I know some of you who are your own artist might think this part of the meeting doesn't really apply to you. Well if you have ever had a Producer tear apart your songs like a pit bull who hasn't eaten in a month this part of our meeting will help you to deal with the mouth foaming corporate dog in a positive way!
Last we will be starting our new way of critiquing each others songs with our NSAI Sac critique sheets. Bring in your song on cd or cassette or play it live. Once again you will only need to bring in 1 copy of the lyrics, ala overhead projector. I really believe this part of our meeting will help us all in one way or another. Motown did this in the 60's with there producers and writers before they released any singles, and Bon Jovi did this with the kids down the street from his house in a pizza parlor to see what worked. Even though this might be a little time consuming to fill out a sheet,I believe it is the best way to give people constructive criticism.
OK not to forget our BIG March Seminar with Publisher Dan Hodges. It will be on Saturday March 8th starting at 10:30 am at Skips Music. Skips Address is: 2740 Auburn Blvd Sacramento, CA 95821, (click here for Map Quest) An Yes Map Quest will get you there! The event cost will be $60, cash or check.Cash is easier on us, but we will take your check. This event will include lunch like always {sandwich, chips drink, munchies, coffee, water etc.} Dan will be playing some demos from his Co.,talk about the Nashville scene, take ?'s and critiquing our songs. It will be a lot of fun. If you can please rsvp for this event asap. I would like to get a number for the food count. I hope to see you all at our Feb. meeting on the 10th.
