News - February 2009

Hey Everyone!

So how many Publisher's will you get in front of this year?
How many A&R people will listen to your hot new song this year?
Well, we have a great opportunity for you this February to get in front of both, all wrapped into one. Our good friend Dan Hodges is coming back to Sacramento. He is now the CEO of danhodgesmusic, his publishing company and works as a A&R rep for Broken Bow records.

Everyone is guaranteed a one song pitch, but bring two, just in case things move faster than anticipated. Please bring your song on a cd or cassette, or if you plan on playing it live, a guitar, and a copy of your lyrics. Do not bring your whole band! Time is limited.

For you first time pitchers, a couple of things to remember:
  • You do not get to explain your song before Dan listens to it. It should stand on it's own, lyrics and music. Great songs stand like the Statue of Liberty. Everyone gets them!
  • A vocal/guitar or vocal/piano demo will do. You do not have to have your song demoed to the tilt for Dan to hear it.
  • Do not come to this event looking for the Magic Bullet. Dan does take songs back with him if he thinks he can place them, but your goal here should be to learn something new from this workshop. If you come with the attitude of an American Idol contestant, odds are you will probably be disappointed.
This event will be a 4 hour slam session, which means that due to time limitations we will have snacks and refreshments but we will not be serving lunch.

Dan asked me to pass on to you that he is looking for songs for Broken Bow artist Krista Marie {www.myspace.com/kristamarie} and Christmas songs that could be classics.

We will be advertising this event all around town, so I am expecting a large turn out. It's first come, first serve, so be on time. We can only hold about 35 to 40 people. Do your homework, read the flyer, work on your songs.

If you have any questions please feel free to email me. Hope to see you all on Saturday February 28th at Skips.
Cheers
