News - April 2009

Hey Everyone!

Our meeting this month will be Sunday April 19th. It will be from 1pm to 4pm at our usual spot, the art gallery next to the Coffee Garden. The address of the Coffee Garden is 2904 Franklin Blvd, Sacramento Ca 95818. The gallery is on the corner of the street. You will see a NSAI Meeting Sign on the door.

I was planning a few different things for this month, but I am going to push them back until May. In May we will go over home recording. I am working on bringing in a special guest for this. Also in May I will have a Photog,{Cameraman} from KCRA come down to our meeting to shoot it, an interview some of you. I am working on a piece for them about our group.

So let move on to April!!!
This month I want to take time to focus on what is happening NOW in the Country market. A lot of you say you want to write Country music, but are you really understanding what is happening in Today's Market? If you want to get cuts in Nashville your songs cannot be DATED! Jason Blume proved this at his seminar last November. We will go over songs that are on the charts, today, last year, two years ago and five years ago. If your song sounds like Martina Mcbride 5 yrs ago how do you expect a publisher to want to take it?
I believe a lot of you are very talented songwriters, but your stuck in your own groove an no matter how much you say you want to change, YOUR NOT CHANGING. Change is just a mind set. If I can do it anyone can. Writing for other artist, has changed my whole music career. Studying Country music has made me a more detailed songwriter.

So you can come to these meetings every month an bitch and complain about all the rules Country music has, or you can accept, embrace, and learn from them.

We will still have our critique session, so bring in your songs you need help with.

Last I would like to congratulate Gabrielle Gusti for completing the NSAI coordinator training. She is now officially our co- coordinator for our chapter. She has done a lot for this group, behind the scenes, for the last year. So please thank her when you see her. We are all very lucky to have her in this group.

Hope to see you all on the 19th.
