News - June 2009

Hey Everyone!

Our NSAI meeting this month will be Sunday June 14th from 1pm to 4pm at the art gallery next to the Coffee Garden. The address of the Coffee Garden is 2904 Franklin Blvd, Sacramento Ca 95818. The gallery is on the corner of the street. You will see a NSAI Meeting Sign on the door.

This Month I would like to go over Lyrics.
Gab and myself are working on bringing a lyric teacher in before the end of the year,so I would like to work on this a bit, get a little jump.
Please bring in any song that you think has extraordinary lyrics. We will go over them with a fine tooth comb and see why they are so great. They do not have to be Country. Great lyrics come in all musical styles. You will need to bring in about 10 copies of the lyrics or one transparency sheet for the overhead, with your cd.

There is one definite thing I have learned about writing lyrics. You can write a song that only you get {the right} or you can write what I call a cliche song, {the left}, use every line that has been used before.
I believe to be a great song writer you have to aim for the middle. write from the heart, write something fresh, that people can relate too.
John Lennon, Holland/ Dozier/Holland {the guy's who wrote most of the Motown hits} Willie Nelson, Ray Charles, Paul Williams, Brian Wilson, Ronnie VanZant an a few others are all master's of hitting the middle.
If you want to be successful at this YOU NEED TO HIT THE MIDDLE!!!

We will also have our critique session so bring in those songs you need a critique on.
