News - March 2010

Hey everyone

This months meeting will be Sunday March 21st It will be from 1pm to 4pm at our usual spot, the art gallery next to the Coffee Garden. The address of the Coffee Garden is 2904 Franklin Blvd, Sacramento Ca 95818. The gallery is on the corner of the street. You will see a NSAI Meeting Sign on the door.

This month I would like to tear apart a few Ballads. I know I have been preaching for the last two years that only 18 percent of ballads get cut but I think everyone should have a great one in there catalog + most country artist's signature song is a ballad. Garth Brooks,"The Dance" Tim McGraw "Live Like You were Dying", Dolly Parton "I will always love you".

I really don't think a ballad will get you in the door of a publisher, since there are soooo many out there but when you finally get that deal, an your sitting down with the latest hottest act, it's always good to have one. Who knows it could be there signature song!

I would like everyone to bring in one ballad that they think is great, with lyrics please. We will rip apart these songs to see what made them great. We will also have are critique session of our meeting so bring in any song you have that needs a critique.

Ok finally our chapter will be on KCRA channel 3 this Saturday March 20th at 6:30pm on there Common Ground show. It is a 4 min piece about how the Sacramento community helps us survive, an how our chapter connects songwriters to Nashville. This monster took me a year to complete, so I hope you all like it. It will be offered to every Hearst Station in this country, so you all can consider yourselves, to quote ZZ Top "Nation Wide"!

I hope to see you all this Sunday, March 21st.
